"The Boss DR-55 Dr. Rhythm is a compact programmable
rhythm unit. It allows you to program six 16-step
rhythms and two 12-step rhythms. Each of these rhythms can contain
up to three independently programmed
percussion sounds: snare, rim shot, and bass drum. To these can
be added programmed accents and hi-hat.
The programming is done with two controls. One produces a beat
and the other produces a rest, as the rhythm
is moved through its 16- or 12-step cycle. An accent knob controls
the volume of the accents added to the program,
and a tempo control varies the speed of the playback. The start/stop
function can be activated by a remote footswitch,
and a jack is provided for synchronizing the Dr. Rhythm with a
digital sequencer. The unit is battery powered. The rhythms
remain intact in memory when the unit is turned on and off and
even while batteries are being changed. Price is $199.50."
