A Sampling Keyboard with a vast memory and extraordinary editing
functions The 16-voice polyphonic S-50 Digital Sampling Keyboard
delivers professional quality sound performance and extensive editing
capabilities for today's users.

The S-50 offers Wave Oscillation, LFO, an eight stage Envelope Generator,
and an Amplifier for each of its sixteen voices. Among its chief attributes
are

512K word of Wave Memory
16-bit processing
a sampling time up to 14.4 seconds at 30 kHz and 28.8 (14.4 x 2)
seconds at 15 kHz
multi timbral capabilities
and four polyphonic voice outputs.

Up to sixteen original tones, sixteen modified tones and eight patches can be
created and stored. Four patches or tones can be played simultaneously and
each patch can include settings for Velocity Switch, Velocity Mix, Velocity
Crossfade, Aftertouch Sensitivity, Split Point, and numerous other edit
settings. Powerful Edit Functions Your sampled sounds can be edited in
two completely different ways with the S-50. On the one hand, the Wave
Data Edit Function allows you to modify the actual Waveform Data of a
sample. For example, you can merge sampled waveforms, erase the
beginning or end of waveform data, or adjust the low-pass and high-pass
digital filters. On the other hand, the Tone Para meter Edit function allows
you to change the way the data is read, without changing the actual
waveform data. This function allows control of envelope settings and loop
parameters.

Used together, the Wave Data Edit and Tone Parameter Edit functions are
powerful tools that make tone and patch creation surprisingly quick and
easy. In fact, every one of the S-50's many remarkable functions has been
carefully designed to allow flexibility and ease in creating and controlling
new sounds. For example, the envelope generator features a flexible
eight-rate and eight-level configura tion. In addition, the rate and level of the
envelope generator can be controlled by key velocity and key scale. The key
velocity sensitivity can be set to follow one of six different velocity curves.

For added convenience, jacks are pro vided on the rear panel of the S-50 for
direct connection of a CRT monitor display Numerous display screens are
available for viewing sampled waveforms, envelopes, and all other editing
information. The S-50 sampler is based around a "clean computer" design
of open architecture This means that the main performance data of Roland
sampling is resident in software-software that allows your sampler to be
updated with new features and performance just by loading a new disk.
