Oberheim
DPX-1

Made In 1986
Oberheim's Sample Playback unit.
The DPX-1 is an 8-voice polyphonic instrument that allows you
to play the sampled sounds
of the E-mu Emulator II, the Sequential Prophet 2000 and Prophet
2002, and the Ensoniq
Mirage in both its keyboard and rack-mountable versions.
Although the DPX-1 doesn't do any sampling itself, nor wiil it
allow editing of the sounds
from the disk, it provided you with the largest available libary
of sampled sounds of any
instrument in that era.As more sound disks became available-from
any of the supported
manufacturers or sampled-sound developers, your library would
continue to grow.
The DPX-1 is simple in its operation, just insert a disk, load
and play. The front panel
functions of the DPX-1 provide all the necessary parameters to
set it up and interface it with
other MIDI-compatible units. MIDI Channels 1-16 plus OMNI Mode
are selectable as well
as front-panel and MIDI Patch Changes, fine tune adjust, MIDI
Controllers on/off functions,
and sample loading/saving via the MIDI Sample Dump Standard.
"And all of this is packaged in a 2-rack space unit."
Many People would use it as source for more voices for
there E-mu Emulator II and others.

The DPX-1 is a 'Sample Player' with the ability to read sound
disks from sampling
synthesizer such as the Emu Emulator II, Ensoniq Mirage, and Sequential
Prophet 2000 /
2002. This makes an enormous library of sounds available for those
who do not wish to
sample themselves, or for those needing additional voices. An
option of 8 separate outputs
will be available in February with a price set at under $200.
Oberheim does not plan on
releasing a model with the outputs installed. The DPX-1 HD is
a hard disk storage unit
for the DPX-1 sample player.
The unit is a rack mount and features additional ports so multiple
DPX-1's can use the
same drive. Sounds can be stored to the hard disk for recall in
4 - 6 seconds. Capacity is
approximately 20 disks worth of data.
