XD-5 Percussion Synthesizer
Made in 1990
Unlike other drum machines, the XD-5 is a synthesizer.
A wide range of crystal-clear 16-bit drum and percussion wavesamples
are provided, but these samples exist in a synthesizer environment,
giving you sonic control that never before existed in a drum unit.
Most all the synthesizer parameters of the K4 are built
into the XD-5: complete ADSRs with level and time modulation,
resonant filters with their own modulators, and the ability to
combine up to four different waveforms into a single sound. Layer
several sounds to get the right hit or ambience, create delay
or flange effects, combine forward and reverse waves for an after-echo,
the possibilities are endless.
Because real-time controls you would expect to find
on a synthesizer also exist in the XD-5, sounds can respond dramatically
to your performance.
The Kawai XD-5 also contains 16 Multi drum kits, for
access of up to 88 sounds at once. Each single sound has its own
tune and level, and can be directed to the stereo or any of six
individual outputs.
The Kawai XD-5 wavesamples are recorded at high bandwidth
(44.1kHz) using an all-digital signal path for maximum fidelity.
Many sounds are recorded with room ambience as well, resulting
in a full, natural sound even without effects processing.
16-BIT 44.l KHZ SAMPLING
The XD-5 includes 256 digital waves, 215 are PCM samples
of some of the best recordings ever made; 41 are DC (Digital Cyclic)
waves. All of these wavesamples are recorded at high bandwidth
(44.1kHz) using an all-digital signal path for maximum fidelity.
Many sounds are recorded with room ambience as well, resulting
in a full. natural sound even without effects processing.
4-SOURCE SOUND CREATING CAPABILITIES
Complete synthesis capability is built into the XD-5:
envelope generators with level and time modulation, resonant filters
with their own modulators, and the ability to combine up to four
different waveforms into a single sound.
Layer several sounds to get the right hit or ambience,
create delay or flange effects, combine forward and reverse waves
for an after-echo, the possibilities are endless. AM (ring) modulation
is also available for further unique sound processing.
DIGITAL FIITERS WITH RESONANCE
Kawai's advanced digital lowpass filter enables you
to fine tune the sound to your personal taste. Resonance gives
a sonic warmth previously available only on analog synthesizers.
Never before have such capabilities existed in a percussion device.
88 SOUNDS AT ONCE
Each of the 16 KIT patches enable, access and mapping
of up to 88 drum sounds. Each sound has its own tuning, transpose
and level. and output assignment. This means a whole universe
of sounds are available simultaneously from your keyboard, sequencer,
or drum controller.
FLEXIBLE OUTPUT ASSIGNMENTS
The XD-5 features a stereo L/R pair of outputs. plus
six additional individual output jacks. Each sound in each KIT
can be panned to stereo or any of the individual outputs using
the OUTPUT patches. These 16 OUTPUT patches enable easy sound
routing, in any situation. Using only L/R outputs?
OUTPUT Patch 1 pans everything stereo. Want !o use
individual output jacks for Bass and Snare drums? Select OUTPUT
Patch 5 and you've got it, quickly and easily. Just like everything
else about the XD-5, these OUTPUT patches are of course fully
programmable.
GATE MODE OPTIMIZES PERFORMANCE ANY CONTROLLER
The XD-5 also includes a GATE MODE which can tion for
use with drum pads and triggers, or turned mance from a keyboard
controller.
MEMORY AND EXPANDABIIITY
The optional memory card (DC-16) can store 64 SINGLEs,
16 KITs and 16
OUTPUT patches, effectively doubling the number of
sounds available from
the XD-S's memory. Like all Kawai synthesizers, a growing
sound library
is also available. created by the world's top sound
programmers.
